Where will this course lead?

This qualification is intended for those who lead a team of internal quality assurance staff or for those who want to progress to a leadership role in maintaining and improving the quality of assessment from within an organisation or assessment centre. The objective of the qualification is to support other roles in the workplace to ensure quality is monitored and continually improved.

What will I study?

The qualification consists of three units:-

Unit 1, “Understanding the principles and practices of internally assuring the quality of assessment”, is a knowledge-based unit and covers all aspects of monitoring and improving the quality of assessment within an organisation.

Unit 2, “Internally assure the quality of assessment”, gives you the opportunity to apply your knowledge and skills through carrying out monitoring activities by way of supporting and developing others in their roles, and developing and improving processes within an organisation.

Unit 3, “Certificate in leading the internal quality assurance of assessment processes and practices”, gives you the opportunity to demonstrate leadership skills when supporting other IQAs.

How will this course be delivered and what is the duration?

When you enrol, you will be contacted by your assessor to arrange an optional initial online teams meeting to introduce you to the course and its structure. During this meeting you will have the opportunity to ask any questions about the course.

We also include a further two online meetings with your assessor that you can book at a mutually convenient time as and when you need them.

You will have 18 months to complete the course, so you can work at your own pace. Depending on your role, you may be able to complete the qualification in just a few months! The content is delivered via videos in a structured manner with all questions and interactive learning activities included. These lessons cover all content of the knowledge-based unit, and the requirements of the performance-based units.

How will I be assessed?

Assessment of the knowledge-based unit is through written answers to questions.

For the performance-based unit, you will need to be assessed by observation of performance during monitoring activities (by a qualified IQA in your workplace). There is also an option for our OtaquasT assessor to observe you (live online). Also through development and improvement activities, evidence provided from monitoring and improving practice of both assessors and IQAs, including records of observations, training, CPD records, witness statements and self-evaluation.

What are the entry requirements?

In order to complete this qualification, learners are required to:

• Be a minimum of 19 years of age

• Be able to write in English at an appropriate level

It is recommended that learners hold one of the following qualifications prior to enrolling:

• Level 3 Award in Assessing Competence in the Work Environment

• Level 3 Award in Assessing Vocationally Related Achievement

• Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement

• A1 Assess Candidate Performance Using a Range of Methods

• D32/D33 Assess candidates Performance/Assess Candidates Using a Different Range of Methods

What else do I need to know?

For Unit 2, you will need to be in a role that allows you to monitor at least two assessors/tutors/coaches and sample the assessment of at least four learners.

For Unit 3, you will need to be in a lead IQA role where you can monitor and support at least two IQAs.
